Inspirational leadership

It’s often the case that the education and training of managers focuses more on the technical aspects of their role than it does on leadership. Knowing the intricacies of safety legislation is not what is needed to foster excellent leadership.

Managers have people who work for them whilst leaders have people who want to follow them. To achieve this, managers need to posses taught skills whereas leaders really need certain personal characteristics such as honesty, integrity, passion, enthusiasm and inspiration.

These attributes – not all of which can be taught – can be coached and learned experientially by managers in order to create inspirational leaders. For some, these attributes bubble to the surface whilst within others they lie dormant, unrecognised and unused.
